Doula since: 2007
Trained with: Optimum Birth
About: My name is Lisa Vallett and I am a doula, or otherwise known as a birth attendant or professional birth support person.

I completed my doula training with Optimum Birth in 2007.
I am also a qualified Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association. I have been involved with ABA for over 8 years and during that time I’ve attended many educational workshops that specialise in breastfeeding, early parenting, pregnancy and birth.
I'm currently the Group Leader for my local ABA group.
I am a keen advocate of natural birth and gentle parenting styles.

I have four gorgeous 'attached' children, and have had four very different births, including an emergency C - Section to start with, then a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) then two lovely natural births. As each one got better, I further educated myself about the wonders of Mother Nature and the woman’s ability to birth her own baby – without any intervention.

Birthing Doula: Yes
Postnatal Doula: Yes

Services offered: As your doula I can offer you:

Nurturing support, both physically and emotionally
Gentle massage and other comfort measures during pregnancy, labour and birth
Hypnobirthing - birth visualisations & affirmations
Gentle encouragement & support of birth positions for optimum fetal position & ease of birth
The creation of a calm, relaxing place to birth with the aid of low lighting, music, aromatherapy, heat packs etc
Willingness to get wet, should you desire to birth in water/shower
Someone who can encourage communication between medical staff, yourself and your partner
Continuous support throughout labour and birth, until feeding is established and all are settled
Emotional and physical support for the father, children or other friends and family present at the birth
I will fully support you and your birth intentions (birth plan) without judgement and will not try to change your mind – my concern is not for where or how you choose to give birth but what your experience of birth is. I will be present for the entire birth, then leave once everyone has settled and feeding has been established. I will also be there for you to ‘de-brief’ the birth experience during a post-natal visit, either in hospital or in your home. The amount of visits before and after the birth is always negotiable and I will be available as much as you need me.

*Breastfeeding counselling will always be available indefinitely at no charge*
