<p><strong>Ingredients</strong>    <br />1 cup dates, roughly chopped    <br />1 ½ teaspoons baking soda    <br />1 cup boiling water    <br />2 1/3 cups self raising wholemeal flour    <br />½ teaspoon crème of tartar&#160; <br />1 teaspoon cinnamon    <br />½ teaspoon nutmeg    <br />3 medium bananas, mashed    <br />1 ½ cups honey    <br />1 teaspoon vanilla extract    <br />4 egg whites</p>
<p><strong>Method</strong>    <br /><strong>1.</strong> Pre heat the over to 180C and lightly grease a 24cm non stick cake tin with removable sides.    <br /><strong>2.</strong> Put the dates and ½ teaspoon of the baking soda in a food processor. With the motor running add the boiling water and continue to process until the dates are smoothly pureed. Set aside.    <br /><strong>3.</strong> Sift the flour, remaining baking soda, crème of tartar and the spices in a bowl.    <br /><strong>4.</strong> Combine the mashed banana, honey and vanilla in a large bowl. Stir through the flour mixture until just combined then stir through the date puree.    <br /><strong>5.</strong> Beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks. Use a large metal spoon to fold the egg whites through the batter until just combined. Do not over beat.    <br /><strong>6.</strong> Spoon into the prepared tin and bake for 50-55 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. </p>

<p>These pancakes have a beautiful soft texture and are lovely when eaten warm. In summer they are delicious with blueberries but they are good all year round topped with plain yoghurt and a dash of maple syrup. Yum! </p>
<p><strong>Ingredients</strong>    <br />¾ cup traditional rolled oats    <br />1 cup water    <br />½ cup plain flour    <br />1 teaspoon baking powder    <br />½ teaspoon salt    <br />½ teaspoon ground cinnamon    <br />¾ cup skim milk    <br />1 cup of fresh blueberries    <br />Plain yoghurt    <br />Maple syrup</p>
<p><strong>Method</strong>    <br /><strong>1.</strong> Combine oats with 1 cup of water and cook either conventional or microwave method according to package directions.    <br /><strong>2.</strong> Combine flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Mix egg and milk in another medium bowl. Add flour mix to egg mix; stir until well blended. Stir in cooked oatmeal.    <br /><strong>3.</strong> Heat pan; grease if desired. Pour batter by 1/3 cupfuls into medium heated pan. Cook pancakes for about 2 minutes until little holes appear on the uncooked side. Before turning add a few fresh blueberries to each pancake. Turn and cook for approximately 2 more minutes or until golden brown.    <br /><strong>4.</strong> We like the pancakes topped with plain yoghurt, the rest of the blueberries and a dash of real maple syrup.</p>

<p>These cupcakes are one of the easiest things you can bake with your kids. If you have younger little chefs that are more interested in decorating, simply put all the cupcake ingredients into a food processor and whiz.</p>
<p><strong>Makes:</strong> 12</p>
<p><strong>Ingredients:</strong>    <br />120g softened unsalted butter    <br />120g caster sugar    <br />2 eggs at room temperature, beaten    <br />1 teaspoon vanilla extract    <br />120g self-raising flour</p>
<p><strong>Icing:</strong>    <br />50g icing sugar    <br />50g unsalted butter    <br />1teasoon vanilla extract    <br />Hundreds and thousands</p>
<p><strong>Method:</strong>    <br /><strong>1.</strong> Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with 12 cupcake cases.    <br /><strong>2.</strong> Whisk together the butter, sugar and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.    <br /><strong>3.</strong> Add the beaten egg, a little at a time and, once combined, fold in the sifted flour.    <br /><strong>4.</strong> Pour the mixture into the cases.    <br /><strong>5.</strong> Bake for 12 minutes, or until they have risen and a skewer inserted into a cupcake comes out clean.</p>
<p>To make the icing, beat together the sugar, butter and vanilla extract.   <br />Let the cupcakes cool. Ice the cakes and sprinkle with hundreds and thousands.</p>

<p><strong>Method</strong>     <br /><strong>1.</strong> Pre heat the oven to 180C and line a baking tray with baking paper.     <br /><strong>2.</strong> Combine all ingredients and mix well.     <br /><strong>3.</strong> Add enough boiling water to make a firm dough.     <br /><strong>4.</strong> Knead mixture, rollout onto a lightly floured surface to ½ cm thickness.     <br /><strong>5.</strong> Cut into desired shapes.     <br /><strong>6.</strong> Place cookies on onto the tray and bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden around the edges.     <br /><strong>7.</strong> Remove from tray and cool. <strong>Cooking Instructions</strong><br />

Feel free to substitute the carrot and apple with other veggies that your baby enjoys.<br />
1. Pre heat the oven to 390 deg F, 200 deg C.<br />
2. In a medium pan, heat the oil and add the carrots and garlic. Saute until<br />
tender.<br />
3. Stir in the lentils and cook for 2 more mins.<br />
4. Add 4oz of the water (do this carefully as the mixture may spit a little)<br />
and stir thoroughly. Lower the heat and simmer gently until almost all of<br />
the water has evaporated.<br />
5. Add another 4oz of water and stir well. Simmer for a further 10 mins.<br />
6. Add another 4oz of water and continue to cook. By continually adding the<br />
water, you are slowly cooking the lentils. These will be mushy when fully<br />
cooked &#8211; if you have used up all the water and they still don&#8217;t seem quite<br />
done, then add a little more.<br />
7. Once the lentils are cooked, stir in the grated apple, half the cheese<br />
and the herbs.<br />
8. Place the mixture into a small oven proof dish. Top with the rest of the<br />
cheese, then sprinkle with the wheat germ.<br />
9. Cook in the oven for around 30 mins, until the cheese is bubbling and<br />
golden brown.<br />
10. Try serving to your baby, topped with homemade applesauce &#8211; delicious!<br />

<strong>Cooking Instructions</strong><br />
Baking Sweet Potatoes<br />
1. Wash and poke holes in sweet potato with fork then wrap sweet potatoes in tin foil &#8211; do not peel for baking<br />
2. Place in a 400 degree oven and bake for 30 minutes or until soft<br />
Microwaving Sweet Potatoes<br />
(many parents do not wish to use a microwave and we respect that. Microwave instructions do not consitute an endorsement of using the microwave as a method for cooking)<br />
1. Scrub and clean sweet potato then wrap with plastic wrap<br />
2. Cook for 8-10 minutes on high or as long as needed to thoroughly cook the sweet potato<br />
Steam or Boil Sweet Potatoes<br />
1. Peel sweet potatoes and cut into small chunks<br />
2. Place chunks into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover potato or use a steamer basket and add sweet potato chunks to the steamer basket<br />
3. “Steam” boil the sweet potatoes until tender<br />
**Be sure to check on the water level; setting a timer for 6 minute intervals to check on the water level will help you save pots and food from burning**<br />
Puree or Mash Sweet Potatoes<br />
1. Reserve any left over water to use for thinning out the sweet potatoes if you steamed or boiled them.<br />
2. If you have baked or microwaved your sweet potatoes, remove skins and use liquid from your preferred source<br />
3. Place sweet potato into your choice of appliance for pureeing and begin pureeing. You may also use a simple potato masher if baby is used to more thick and textured foods.<br />
4. Add the reserved water or other liquid as necessary to achieve a smooth, thin consistency<br />
Consider adding a dash of cinnamon or a dash of nutmeg and/or ginger to the sweet potatoes! As always, consult your pediatrician about the use of spices for your baby’s food and remember, salt should never be used as a flavouring!<br />

Place the diced carrots and potatoes in a saucepan and just cover with water. Simmer until tender, then drain. Reserve 1fl oz of the cooking water (unless you are planning on using homemade chicken stock in this recipe).    <br />2. Puree the carrot and potato mixture in a food processor, along with the water (or stock), ginger and cream (if using). You can adjust the consistency of this puree to suit your baby by decreasing or increasing the amount of stock (or water) that you use.    <br />3. Alternatively, try serving this dip with cheese strips, tofu fingers, lightly toasted bread, pita bread or bagels.     <br />1. Simmer the carrots in a little boiling water until tender.    <br />2. Drain, then rinse with cold water. Drain again.    <br />3. Put the carrots, garlic (if using), yogurt and coriander in a blender.     <br />Puree until smooth.    <br />4.
