According to a recent survey, if a stay-at-home mum could be compensated in cash rather than personal satisfaction and unconditional love, she’d earn more than $120,000 a year.
I’m guessing most of you are scoffing and laughing at this … I can almost hear the comments out loud “if only mothers were paid what they’re worth” or “the hubby and kids don’t appreciate just how much I do”.
But the figure is very real … It was compiled by a US company that calculated a mum’s market value by studying pay levels for 10 jobs with duties a typical mother performs: including housekeeper, day care centre teacher, van driver, psychologist and CEO.
In my opinion, we should be paid AT LEAST that much … Most of us do far more than a 40 hour week. More like a 24/7 hour week. I would like to see my other half take on the mummy role for just a week! But I’m laughing at the mental picture already. If I do ever need to go out … I often come home to the same Baby Einstein DVD being played over and over.
OK, so the emotional rewards of being a stay at home Mum far outweigh any bonus your underappreciative boss could give you, but what if you could have it all!?!?!?!?!?!?!
