Safe Shopping & Travel with a New Baby

Your days of hopping in the car for a quick run to the store are gone – now that you’re a mom. Now that you have a new baby almost everything you do, you’ll have to think about it in a different light.
As you enter and exit stores consider these simple steps. Avoid parking next to a van. The extra effort could save your life. A van is a large object that could block the view of any wrong doing.

When you have a baby - particularly your first - a little advice from friends and family can be very useful. But when it comes to feeding your little one, the advice you receive may conflict with that given by your pediatrician. So what do you do when the advice begins to feel like criticism - or even pressure?
Many medical authorities worldwide, including UNICEF, the World Health Organization and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that babies receive only breast milk or infant formula for the first 6 months of life. But previous generations of parents received quite different advice and those same parents - now grandparents - may be somewhat dismissive - or even contemptuous - of current guidelines. They may tell you that YOU were given solid foods from 6 weeks of age and that YOU’VE suffered no ill effects. How do you respond to this?

Hiring Baby Goods

Before Nathaniel was born, Hubby and I were walking around the baby shops in despair looking at the prices of everything! Having a baby is expensive!
We were given a second hand car seat, one of those convertible ones. It h ad been sitting in our friends’ garage for some time and was slightly mouldy in the straps. We cleaned it up, but there was still some evidence the mould was there. (We have since cleaned it up and it’s a great spare car seat!) As a result, we were told the seat was unable to be installed, however we could get new straps for the seat - in 6 months!

Naming Baby

Choosing a name for your baby is probably one of the most important, and most confusing, decisions regarding your unborn child. For many of us, we won’t know if our baby is a boy or a girl, so we need to choose 2 names!
